Many users of the WP Responder have reported some serious bugs in the plugin. I have to practice being careful with the source code. While adding a new feature to the plugin I accidentally end up introducing two bugs into the program. It is not possible for me to do a complete test of the plugin before releasing it.
That is why I am releasing a new version of the plugin- v4.9.4 that fixes almost all of these problems and adds a few new features:
- Automatic Subscriber Transfer – Automatically deactivate a subscriber of Newsletter A when they subscribe to Newsletter B. Ideal for separating buyers from prospects.
- Delete subscribers in mass
- Delete subscription forms in mass
- Subscription Form Widget – Put subscription forms in sidebar using widgets!
What Happened to WP Responder 4.9.3?
After I released v4.9.3 yesterday, a blogger had sent me an e-mail pointing out a bug that didn’t allow subscribers to unsubscribe from the mailing list. This is a critical problem. For most other bugs, I would leave it to the next version. But this is something that can get your server blacklisted. Thus, the early release.
Download
You can download the latest version of the plugin at the WP Responder Website.
I am not sucssesful installing it. I am getting the following error message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/content/d/o/r/doronyork/html/wp-content/plugins/wp-responder-email-autoresponder-and-newsletter-plugin/lib/classes/Swift.php on line 35
What are my options?
Can you tell me why when I activate the plugin, v 4.9.1 that I can no longer add posts or pages. My editor goes gray and I cannot type. I like this plugin, please tell me if their is a fix.
I want the newsletter plugin to be visible and working for editorial users (level 7 if thats correct). I tried editing the wpresponder.php file from level_8 to level_7 but it doesnt work. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks for the great work on this free email marketing newsletter; it’s exactly the sort of thing I’m looking for. A couple of questions:
How can I modify the template used to generate the emails sent to subscribers? Instead of the emails saying “click here to read this post at [!sitename!]“, I’d like to say “click here to comment on this post.” so that readers come back to my blog to interact with me.
I use the SEO Smart Links plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-automatic-links/) to generate hyperlinks between content on my blog, and offsite links including affiliate links. I really want these links in the emails too, which I imagine involves getting WP Responder to process the content through any active plugins. Is this possible?
If I embed a YouTube video in my posts using the video plugin syntax [youtube id], will the viewer see a clickable video?
Congratulations on your work on this… it’s arriving at exactly the right time for me and I’ll definitely donate if I end up getting it to do what I need & can use it. Thanks, Graham.
Hi Raj,
First of all, really thank you for developing this plugin… You have started the point on how internet business should be :)… I’ll be always your biggest supporter!
I have just started out to use this plugin, and I realize this [!name!] function doesn’t work…
When subscribers subscribe thru the form on my website, they’ll get an email asking them to verify their email addresses…
Usually we’ll address them by starting the email saying “Hi [!name!],”… All I can see is just the “Hi ,”. There’s a little space cause the name is missing…
Please advise how can I fix this Raj…
Thanks a lot,
Yin Li
Hi,
Amazing plugin. Exactly does what i need!
Just 2 questions:
1. I added a 2nd newsletter to try some stuff and now I don’t find a way to delete it…
2. Is there a chance to change the design of the subsribed page? I mean these 3 pages that a user is confronted with in the subscription process.
All the best and many thanks
Jona
Awesome plug-in! Thanks for all your hard work on this!
I’m installing it on a client website, although the confirm emails are not being received by new sign ups. Is it a must to set up the SMTP settings for it to work correctly?
Thanks again!
Hilary
@Yin,
I m guessing you imported your subscribers through a CSV file? If not, there may be a bug in the plugin.
@Jona,
Changing the design of the subscriber confirmed page is something I am looking into right now. You will see a new design in the new version.
@Hilary,
SMTP settings are optional. You don’t need to specify them to use the plugin.
Raj
Hey!
I am currently testing your plugin. It’s really nice! I think i’m gonna go with it.
But i had some problems with it. Right now the problem is that i’ve sent some test newsletters, and they’re not getting sent. I looked in the database, and they’re all in the wp_wpr_queue table. So i am curious why they are getting queued and not going out. (I tried running the cron, but it doesn’t work – it says “running cron” forever ~= 40 min).
Thank you
Anda
Trying to import csv file of subscribers and it is not letting me match up forms.
G’day Raj from Australia
I have been comparing your plugin to another on the WordPress Platform and yours does not allow Blog Subscribers to automatically be added to the WP-AR list?
Why not? or is there a way you can do this?
Other than that, I would say there is much more available than many people want – it’s awesome!
Well done – just get ordinary subscribers added to the list and it will be perfect :-)
Dave
Hi Raj,
I got the [!name!] sorted out already, thanks.
Just one thing now, I can’t create a new Subscription Form. After I filled up all the details, and get the code, when I go back to the Form panel, the new form is not there.
When I paste the code into my blog post, and fill in the name and email address detail and hit “submit”, the error page came out…
Before I was able to create Subscription Form, but now it isn’t possible after upgrading to the latest version.
Please advise?
Thanks,
Yin Li
Raj,
Getting error like this, when any one want to
subscribe(after click submit when enter his name & e-mail)
WordPress database error: [Access denied for user 'fees_4423898'@'%' to database 'fees_4423898_ebook']
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE IF NOT EXISTS wp_wpr_subscribers_2_adddedfield as SELECT a.sid id, a.value adddedfield from wp_wpr_custom_fields_values a, wp_wpr_custom_fields b where a.nid=2 and a.cid=b.id and b.name=’adddedfield’;
WordPress database error: [Access denied for user 'fees_4423898'@'%' to database 'fees_4423898_ebook']
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE IF NOT EXISTS wp_wpr_subscribers_2 as SELECT a.adddedfield adddedfield, b.nid nid, b.id id, b.name name, b.email email, b.date date, b.active active, b.fid fid, b.confirmed confirmed, b.hash hash FROM wp_wpr_subscribers_2_adddedfield a, wp_wpr_subscribers b WHERE a.id=b.id AND b.nid=2;
Can you please help me to resolve?
Thanks
.
Great plugin! Thank you for all your hard work. Quick question …
Is there any way of integrating the sign up form with any kind of spam protection? I’ve been receiving spam signups and an increase in spam post comments since installing.
I’m also wondering how easy it would be to integrate my existing contact form captcha with it?
Many thanks
Julia
Hi Raj,
I’m experiencing couldn’t export the subscribers list. When I pressed on the button “Import/Export Subscribers” on the subscribers list, I get this message:
“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
Please advise…
Thanks so much,
Yin Li
Hiya.
Great plugin but still no response to my question…
Will there be any future spam protection on the newsletter sign up form in the next release? Could you please give us some idea? If not, i’ll need to get a programmer to integrate something. But, if something is in the pipeline i’ll hold off spending the money! Please let us know. Many thanks!
Julia
By spam protection do you mean, CAPTCHA fields?
Nope. The next version will not be adding CAPTCHA field support to the form.
Hi Raj. Thanks for your response. Didn’t have to be a captcha necessarily. But any kind of spam protection would have been good.
Spam protection is something i prize highly and, having received several spam signups in the first week of installation, I’m afriad i’m going to give the alternative MailPress a go. I understand spam protection comes as standard, and free, on that newsletter plugin.
Its a shame, because i like the plugin, but at least I know what i’m doing now so many thanks!
Rgds

Hi, wondering if anyone has found a different text editor (other than the utterly simplistic WP editor) that works with this plugin? I LOVE CK editor but there’s some conflict with the Responder plugin so I can’t use both at the same time. As I’m sure it will take Raj some time to work it out, I’m hoping someone else could report back if there’s another editor that works with it. Thanks!
Hi Raj,
Great work on this plugin. I would like to remove the “Name” field of the subscription form, as I do not need the subscriber’s name and visitors might not want to share their name. Will you please let us know a solution? I am able to remove it but the after pressing the subscribe button, an error requesting the “name” comes up.
Regards,
Mark
Hi Raj -
I’m just checking in to see if any progress has been made on making the program able to upload CSV files. I have the same problem as Yin Li above, where she says “When I pressed on the button ‘Import/Export Subscribers’ on the subscribers list, I get this message: ‘You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.’” I really need to find a solution or else I’ll need to use a different plugin, and as yours has lots of the features I need, I’d really prefer not to switch.
Have you been able to get any closer to fixing that particular problem? Thanks for any info you can give.
Hi Tracy,
You can use the “Import/Export Subscribers” function on the left sidebar. So far this one works, but not inside the subscribers list.
From all the plugins that I have tried only this works without interfering with all the other plugins on my site.
I have another idea for you. Why redirecting users when they subscribe to another page when you can create a more friendly user experience by just adding “thank you for your subscription” or “please insert a valid email” messages appearing right on top or the bottom of the fields. This can be done on the widget or on a page where the plugin appears. This eliminating the redirecting especially when you get the “An Error Has Occured… Please go back and re-enter the e-mail..” message. This can be very frustrating. Moreover the design of those redirected pages with messages will never match the initial design of the WP theme.
Also, in the error message in the plugin you have a typo.
On the other side I realy like your plugin this is why I take the time to write you this comment. Hope you’ll keep the good work!
Ooops another thing. In my site the plugin is on its own page. When I tried to validate the page (I have generated this code from the Subscription Forms):
span class=”wpr-subform-hidden-fields”
input type=”hidden” name=”blogsubscription” value=”none” /
input type=”hidden” name=”newsletter” value=”1″ /
input type=”hidden” name=”fid” value=”1″ /
/span
And I have those errors when the page is checked in the W3C Markup Validation Service:
end tag for element “p” which is not open
span class=”wpr-subform-hidden-fields” /p
end tag for element “p” which is not open
/span /p
I have omitted the for the purpose of this comment. By some reason the plugin has put two end tags for the element p without opening them. I have tried to fix that but the page got messy. Any ideas?
I’m using your new plugin 4.9.5.1
My subscribers are telling me that they are getting 2, 4, and 6 copies of the same html mailing. I only sent it once. I wasn’t able to use the external smtp without causing major errors, so this is happening without.
I sent a bug report of this also.
Could this be some sort of conflict with another plugin?? I don’t have any mail plugins installed. Have others reported having this problem??
Thank you for any help you can give!
i love your plugin!! … and i was just wondering if it has anything built in to handle bounced addresses (like if someone’s email account is no longer active)?
Great pl;ugin Raj, exactly what I have been looking for for a while so my clients don’t have to sign up for aWeber, MailChimp, etc and this is better that [GWA] Autoresponder. One thing thought – I it possible to assign the cpapability fopr the use of the plugin to Editors rather than just Administrator. The reason is the people writing the newsletters do neot necessarily have (nor is it appropriate to give them) Administrator capabilities, particularly when outsourcing this function or delegating to staff members. Many thanks
@Yin -
Thanks for responding, I really appreciate you taking the time. :) However, I can’t use the “Import/Export Subscribers” function on the left sidebar either – it always tells me I need to create a newsletter first, even though I have.
Raj, if you’re reading, I’ve left comments on multiple posts and even emailed you directly. This is the only thing keeping me from being up and running with this plugin and some advice would really be appreciated. I realize you do this for free and supporting it is something you do in your extra time — I’d be willing to donate to you for your time but not until I can actually get the thing to operate as advertised. If you haven’t managed to get this bug out yet (because it’s one I know you’re aware of), can you tell me how to enter my records manually in the database? I’ve looked at possibly doing that but there are fields there that I assume the program is supposed to complete (like “hash”) and I don’t know how to fill them in myself. If you (or anyone) could even tell me how to do that that’d be fine. Please let me know what I can do to get my subscribers in and get out of your hair. :) Thanks.
Hi Raj, the plugin looks very nice, but the HTML-Template is not able to provide/integrate an unsubscribe linke, is that correct?
I saw this link only appearing in the subscribtion-confirmation email like:
——-
To manage your email subscriptions or to unsubscribe click on the URL below:
http://www.xyz.com/?wpr-manage=xyz…xyz
If the above URL is not a clickable link simply copy it and paste it in your web browser.
——-
-> created in the wpresponder.php line 1218
But i could not find a function for the HTML template itself. I have tried to enter [!unsubscribe!] in the HTML, what i read somewhere, but got no luck.
Any idea? Your FAQ misses this part somehow as well: http://www.wpresponder.com/menu-parent/user-guide/
Alternatively i would be very happy with a simple HTML form for unsubscription, similar to the subscribe form – but could not find any.
Anybody else an idea maybe?
Cheers,
Ben
Hi Raj,
Great work!
Could you please advise on how to subscribe to a newsletter (or more particularly to an auto-responder) the WP users that sign-up inside the normal wordpress user management system.
I’m interested to send a “Get Started” serie of emails to new people that sign in to our site, to help them to understand what they can do with it…
Cheers,
Simon
Afternoon,
When subscribing I keep getting this error
WordPress database error: [Access denied for user 'web106-a-wor-150'@'%' to database 'web106-a-wor-150']
CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE IF NOT EXISTS wp_wpr_subscribers_1 as SELECT a.nid nid, a.id id, a.name name, a.email email, a.date date, a.active active, a.confirmed confirmed, a.fid fid, a.hash hash FROM wp_wpr_subscribers a WHERE a.nid=1;
WordPress database error: [Table 'web106-a-wor-150.wp_wpr_subscribers_1' doesn't exist]
select * from wp_wpr_subscribers_1 where id=3;
Is they away we can fix this ?
